Sabbath’s Tony Iommi receives Gibson Les Paul Q Award 2015

Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi received the prestigious Gibson Les Paul Award at today’s Q Magazine Awards ceremony in London.

Iommi was honoured for his outstanding contribution to music and pop culture, and the award also forms part of the 100th anniversary of Les Paul, the man who pioneered the solid-body electric guitar.

“Tony is one of those rare guitar players in that he truly defines a genre and a sound,” said Q’s Senior Editor Matt Mason. “His influence is huge but, equally, there is a real finesse in his playing that often gets overlooked. As with all great musicians, Tony hears the world in a totally unique way, and that is what the Gibson Les Paul celebrates.”
