- Best British Band: Biffy Clyro
- Best Festival Headliner: Adele
After collecting their Best British Band award, the Scottish trio’s singer Simon Neil joked with NME backstage: “No doubt the finger will fall off this award later like it has done every previous time… but that’s part of the fun – we play ‘find the finger.'”
Biffy Clyro had an incredible 2016. Their seventh album Ellipsis went to Number 1 in the UK, Germany, Ireland and Switzerland; they headlined Reading & Leeds and Download Festivals, garnering rave reviews in the process; they sold out Glasgow’s Bellahouston Park (read the Guardian’s 4* review here); they played arena tours in the UK and Europe, and they were Q Magazine nominees for Best Act in the World Today and Best Track, amongst many other highlights.
Just days after scooping five categories at the Grammy Awards, Adele won the Best Festival Headliner category for her Pyramid Stage triumph at the 2016 Glastonbury Festival. The festival was also named Best Festival at the NME Awards. Adele was unable to collect the award as she’s currently preparing for the Australia/New Zealand leg of her ’25’ World Tour.
