Black Sabbath win Ivor Novello Lifetime Achievement award 2015

Black Sabbath (Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne and Bill Ward) were honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award yesterday at the Ivor Novello Awards ceremony in London.

The Ivors honour excellence in British music writing. They are judged and presented by the writing community and for over 50 years have been given annually to outstanding songwriters and composers in recognition of their contribution to British music.

All band members, bar Ozzy Osbourne, were present to pick up the trophy from Queen guitarist Brian May, confirming the heavy metal band would embark on their “final tour” next year. Brian May said: ‘They really rewrote the way that songs were written. Black Sabbath are THE originators (of metal).’
